Your brain’s insulin sensitivity isn’t constant—it shifts across the menstrual cycle

New research shows that cycle-related shifts in food desire are linked to measurable changes in brain function. The same insulin signal acts on brain networks involved in reward, satiety, and decision-making in opposite ways during the follicular and luteal phases of the menstrual cycle. This helps explain why cravings, particularly for sweet foods, are more pronounced in the luteal phase.
