Important contraindications
Like any therapy, the Samphire Headband (Nettle™ and Lutea™) may not be suitable for everyone.
Certain contraindications must be considered for safe use. If you're currently receiving medical care for a central nervous system condition, if you're unsure whether the Samphire Headband is right for you, or if any of the following circumstances apply to you, please consult your healthcare professional before starting.
- History of seizures or epilepsy: Epilepsy is a neurological disorder characterised by recurrent seizures, which are caused by abnormal neuronal activity in the brain. The therapy involves transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), which can influence neuronal excitability, thus, if you experience this condition you should not use Samphire's neurostimulation products.
- Pregnancy: During pregnancy, hormonal and physiological changes occur in the body, including alterations in brain function. The therapy's effects on the developing foetus and the pregnant individual have not yet been studied, therefore, it is recommended to avoid usage to prevent any potential risks.
- Active suicidal thoughts: Since one of the specific brain regions targeted by our solutions is responsible for regulating mood (DLPFC), individuals experiencing active suicidal thoughts should avoid altering brain function and should not use our therapies.
- Neurological or neuropsychiatric conditions: Individuals with pre-existing neurological or neuropsychiatric conditions may have altered brain function and connectivity. Introducing external electrical stimulation through our therapies could potentially lead to changes in these neural networks. Therefore, it's recommended that individuals with such conditions avoid using our solutions.
- Skull or brain abnormalities: Structural abnormalities in the skull or brain can alter the distribution of electrical currents delivered by neurostimulation therapy. This could lead to unintended stimulation of areas not targeted for treatment.
- Implants in the head: Implants such as cochlear implants or implanted hearing aids contain sensitive electronic components that could be affected by the electrical fields generated during a stimulation session. Interference with these devices could compromise their functionality or safety.
- Implanted medical devices: Medical devices like pacemakers or neurostimulation devices are designed to regulate physiological functions or treat underlying conditions. The electrical currents generated by the therapy may interact with these devices, necessitating avoidance of the therapy in such cases.
Understanding these contraindications is important for safe and effective use of the Samphire Headband. Always prioritise your health circumstances and consult a healthcare professional when needed.
